11 Creative, Cultural, and Cheap Things To Do In SF

If you're feeling the need to fall back in love with San Francisco - we've got your program. This fall season, spend a day or two discovering new hidden gems and remind yourself that not every outing in SF costs a fortune. (as long as you don't get a parking ticket!)

LitCrawl -(October 25)

  • The literary bar crawl that caps off Litquake, the 2 week long literary festival that takes place across the city. Yeah, it gets wild! Flash poetry, open mics, readings from authors you've heard of and others waiting to be discovered.

Alemany Farmer's Market (Saturdays)

  • The OG and some would say the best. Certainly the most diverse selection of any farmer's market in the city. We promise you *will* encounter at least one fruit or vegetable you can't name. And for <$5 you can take it home and experiment!

Shipyard Open Studios - (October 18-19)

  • Working artists at the Shipyard throw open their studio doors to the public for two days. Clear your schedule - you'll be positively swimming in amazing local art for hours.

Volunteer Clean Up Parks and Rec - (ongoing)

  • Love your SF parks? They need you! This is one of those surprisingly fun and satisfying things you might wish you'd done sooner.

Shakespeare In the Park - (Aug 30 - Sept 21)

  • This year's production is Two Gentlemen of Verona - with a California twist. Free and outdoors just as the sun arrives in September!

Yoga On the Labyrinth at Grace Cathedral (Tuesdays and Saturdays)

  • A yoga class in a Catholic Church? Very SF! A transcendent and singular setting for an inspired practice. Truly an experience not to be missed.

SF CIty College Classes (ongoing)

  • City College is FREE for SF Residents, with a course catalog that's a veritable smorgasbord of stuff you've always wanted to try. From ceramics to sewing, learning French or Spanish, journalism or creative writing; even phys ed classes like Boot Camp and Yoga.

 Conservatory of Flowers - (ongoing)

  • This indoor botanical garden's tropical hothouse setting is a perfect escape  for a foggy day. Not into plants? The architecture itself is worth the trip. Another FREE perk for SF Residents!

Archimedes Banya - (Ongoing)

  • The traditional Russian bathhouse experience, without the international travel.  Steam rooms, cold plunge, rejuvenating massage… Sound appealing? Weekday happy hours are just $55 for 3 hours.

"Unspeakable Vice"- Queer History Walking Tours - (ongoing)

  • See our featured small business this month for a deep dive! These entertaining and thoughtful tours take you outside the Castro to learn about the unsung heroes and colorful stories of San Francisco's past.

UndiscoverdSF - Filipino Culture Crawl - (October 18)

  • An outdoor event to celebrate Filipino American History Month? Where better to have the party than SOMA's new cultural district; SOMA Pilipinas? Come for the awesome food, stay for the vendors and music.
