Need a great HVAC company? We've got you! Today we're sitting down with Michael Forshey, owner/operator of Refreshed Heating and Cooling. Michael's team has completed at least 7 projects for our clients in the past year and they are A++. If your heater or A/C is on the fritz or you're thinking of some energy efficient upgrades like the ones we covered here, Michael is the one to call.
Michael, what services does Refreshed provide and what's your service area?
Refreshed Heating and Cooling is a local, family owned, full-service HVAC contractor serving the entire east bay area. We specialize in heat pump technology (ducted or mini split). We provide the latest technology in air purification products for the home. We also provide full repair options and annual maintenance agreements on all types of equipment.
What is the most common problem you help homeowners solve?
Energy Efficiency. We focus on saving customers money while also increasing the value of their asset!
Can you share something most people don't know about the heating and cooling business?
Your home's HVAC system is roughly 31% of the total energy usage in your home. Upgrading to an energy efficient system can save hundreds of dollars per month in utility cost. Also, with California's clean energy initiatives, there are several rebates and tax credits that make a high efficiency heat pump less expensive than a traditional gas furnace/AC combo. The threshold for those rebates is EnergyStar qualification which is extremely high efficiency. Whether the customer has solar or not, there are significant savings for both heating and cooling!
Coolest upgrade you've ever made to a house?
Full electrification! Orchestrated a whole home solution for a customer looking to sell. We of course did the heat pump and heat pump water heater, induction stove, heat pump dryer and subbed out the solar installation. We were told that the home sold for more than triple the cost of the upgrades more than original listing.
What about your approach sets Refreshed apart from other HVAC companies?
Our customers are our top priority. We do not force brands down their throat or try to capitalize on any/every upsell opportunity. We design the systems based on what is best for the home, the customer, the strength of the asset and budgetary concerns. No customer is more important than the one we are on and lastly, we do not submit change orders. Customers have a fixed price bid and will never pay more than what they signed the agreement for (asbestos remediation is the only exception).
How did you get into this business?
Have been actively in home services for years and after working for one of the largest HVAC companies in the bay area, and seeing the error of their ways (turns and money became more important than customer service), we decided there is a better way to do this where the customer always wins!
What would you like to tell people about being a small business owner?
It's tough! If it were easy, everyone would do it!
You can say that again! We love that you embody the small business ethos of quality and customer-first service.
