The Sunset District of San Francisco is home to a variety of farmer's markets, locally owned grocery stores, smaller chain grocery stores, and culturally specific stores for any dish you can imagine! Below is a list of the neighborhood's favorite places to shop for their family.
Everything you want and need is here at 22nd & Irving Market in the Outer Sunset neighborhood. Similar to Andronico's, their selection is wide, but unlike Andronico's, 22nd & Irving prices are more affordable. You'll even find Asian ingredients, uncommon produce, and organic produce. Nestled in between residential streets and transit lines, it's a great option when you run out of an ingredient at the last minute, or if you're on the way home from work.
Sunset Super is known for their unbeatable selection of Asian and Chinese favorites. Locals love their seafood selection, sales on produce, and inexpensive fruit. Sunset Super is notoriously well-stocked, making it incredibly convenient to find exactly what you're looking for. Located on Irving, parking can be difficult, so be sure to plan ahead when visiting.
Gus's Community Market offers modern luxuries such as Instacart deliveries, craft beer selection, small batch and seasonal cheeses, over-the-top bread selection, a cafe, and even sushi. Keep up with all their seasonal newcomers and monthly sales on their Instagram account. Gus's feels like a family-owned Whole Foods without the big-corporation coldness. In fact, when you become part of their Community Card Program, they will contribute 6% of your purchases to the school or non-profit of your choice. They also offer fundraising opportunities and a Community Donation Program.
One of the only supermarkets south of Noriega, SM Sunset Supermarket is stocked with affordable produce, seafood, and meat. You will find a variety of Asian food, herbs, and drinks from various countries. The vegan options are plenty, and so is parking, making the SM Sunset Supermarket a convenient affordable option for groceries.
Andronico's Community Market is a local Sunset District Favorite for many reasons, including their extended hours, DriveUp & Go service, easy parking, impressive deli and bakery, and high end selection of produce and meats. Located in the Outer Sunset neighborhood, you will forget you are in the heart of a bustling city! Recently bought out by Safeway, you can bet on this grocery being a one-stop-shop.
While local residents in the Sunset District love to support their community by shopping at small business, sometimes Safeway has exactly what you need and it's likely on sale or there's coupons available. Safeway has many sales every week, and their parking is easier than most groceriy stores and markets in the city making it the convenient choice. Safeway has everything you need for dinner, stationary, pet food, school supplies, and even holiday gifts. On the days when you have a specific grocery list, or you are in a hurry, Safeway is always there.
No matter what is on your grocery list, you can find it at a grocery store or market in the Sunset District. Dont miss the Outer Sunset and Inner Sunset farmer's market on the weekends for vendors, food trucks, and locally grown produce!
