The first thing you want in a pizza place is good pizza. Well, preferably GREAT pizza. Check and check. The Cheeseboard didn't survive and thrive in Berekely's food scene for 50+ years (yep, you read that right) without serving some of the city's best pies. But The Cheeseboard is far more than just a pizzeria. Here you can find an absolutely astonishing selection of local and international cheeses. Looking to try something you've never heard of, much less tasted? This is the perfect launchpad.
They also bake some of the most mouthwatering fresh breads and pastries in the entire Bay Area. In an era where we are starting to learn about how many strange things lurk in factory-made bread, we're fortunate to have places like The Cheeseboard turning good old flour, water and salt into pure culinary magic every single day.
Beyond that, they are a business that you can feel fantastic about supporting. As a worker-owned and operated co-op, their business model is focused on creating a democratic workplace. In their own words:
"A worker cooperative is an enterprise that produces goods, distributes goods and/or provides services and is owned and controlled by its worker-owners. Ownership of a worker cooperative is vested solely with the worker-owners on an equal basis. Worker-owners control the resources of the cooperative and the work process." - from The Cheeseboard website
They are part of a larger group of worker-owned local businesses that also brings you Arizmendi's unforgettable Corn Cherry Scones.
The SF Chronicle recently profiled their insanely addictive green sauce, versions of which has found its way to other joints like Arizmendi's, Sliver, and Diamond slice. It's a fun read about the green sauce's supposed origin story.
Let us help you get the word out about your Bay Area business. You already know it takes passion, an insane amount of work, AND good cheerleaders around you in order to make a business succeed.
